France (SK) — At least three people were killed and several were wounded Thursday following a knife attack in the French city of Nice, reports said. The French anti-terrorism prosecutor's office opened an investigation into the Thursday morning attack, reports said. One of the victims was a woman at the city's Notre Dame Church; she was allegedly beheaded.

The 18-year-old suspect had said he wanted to punish Paty for showing pupils cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad. The Nice Mayor told BFM television that three people had died, two inside the church and a third who fled but was mortally wounded. The attack at the Church also happened less than a half a mile from the site in 2016 where another attacker plowed a truck into a crowd on Bastille Day, killing dozens.

Leaders from around the Muslim world added their criticism of what they see as attacks on Islam in the West. A Saudi man was also arrested Thursday for allegedly using a “sharp tool” to attack a guard at the French consulate in Jeddah. The Kremlin responded Thursday to snippets of beheadings in France, saying it was unacceptable to kill people but also wrong to insult the feelings of religious believers, according to Reuters.
